CaroMont Health Chooses RelayHealth for Enterprise Health Information Exchange to Enhance Care Coordination

Competitive market, physician alignment also key considerations

Atlanta - September 20,2011

CaroMont Health, a 435- bed, regional not-for-profit healthcare system in Gastonia, North Carolina, has chosen RelayHealth to facilitate enterprise health information exchange (HIE) between the hospital, its employed physicians and affiliated physicians.

“Effective care coordination is key to continued healthcare quality,” said Mike Johnson, assistant VP/CIO, CaroMont Health. “This is a competitive market and we want to be the health system of choice for both physicians and patients. Choosing RelayHealth for secure health information exchange between all healthcare participants will help us effectively coordinate our care and is a significant piece in maintaining excellence in the quality of care we deliver.”

Johnson cited RelayHealth’s secure provider-to-provider messaging, electronic results management and ease of implementation as factors in the selection of RelayHealth for CaroMont’s enterprise health information exchange. More than 100 employed physicians will be the first to implement the system with approximately 200 employed and affiliated physicians to follow.

“Our employed physicians are all adopting the same electronic medical record (EMR) system,” Johnson stated. “Our affiliated physicians, however, use a wide variety of EMRs. By choosing RelayHealth for health information exchange, we’ll be able to share information with all of the EMR systems used by our CaroMont physicians and our affiliated physicians. Additionally, physicians will be able to securely communicate with patients through the RelayHealth portal.”

“Hospitals and health systems – particularly those in highly competitive environments like CaroMont – are choosing enterprise health information exchange as a powerful way to differentiate themselves to patients and physicians,” said Jim Bodenbender, president, RelayHealth Connectivity Solutions. “CaroMont Health’s vision for the future of connected healthcare through health information exchange and its commitment to the communities it serves is commendable.”
