INDUSTRY NEWS: Learn more about the Per-Se Technologies and NDC Health acquisition and the expanded services of RelayHealth

Security and Privacy

RelayHealth is committed to providing a secure and private doctor-patient communication service.

Unlike e-mail, which utilizes multiple servers distributed across the Internet; RelayHealth® communications all occur within a single, centrally managed database, isolated from the Internet by a firewall, which blocks access by unauthorized parties. Information transmitted via RelayHealth can be trusted to arrive privately and unaltered to the server specified. For more information, read RelayHealth vs. E-mail.

Embedded Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology — a protocol that delivers server authentication, data encryption, and message integrity — ensures that only a patient and corresponding registered doctors and staff members can read a RelayHealth message. What's more, the RelayHealth service requires a sign-in ID and password, and can only be accessed by registered users.

Messages are never stored anywhere but on the secure RelayHealth servers, and they cannot be read en route, deleted, copied, or altered in any way. Patients using the service can view an audit trail detailing who has accessed their medical profile, and can terminate their online relationship with a doctor at any time — preventing any future access to their medical information. Read about our Privacy Policy for more details.

RelayHealth meets all current HIPAA and CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services) Internet Security regulations and requirements including the use of the National Provider Identifier (NPI).
